BALSA WOOD

Balsa tree (Ochroma Pyramidale) grows in sub-tropical rainforest of Ecuador, as well as in Central America and some South American countries. Still, the geographical and climatic conditions are suitable for the balsa tree of Ecuador is superior in quality development and in the rest of the world. This wood grows quickly and in most cases is ready to be cut from four to five years, their height can reach 30 meters. (90 feet) and can have a diameter of up to 50cms. (20 inches)

As main property of Balsa wood is the ratio of its extremely light weight and high strength and stability, being one of its most important advantages. Physical characteristics as balsa wood has a fine texture, straight grain, heartwood red or brown and whitish sapwood, yellowish pink; this being the part of that from which the largest number of commercial timber is obtained.
